The Effect of Launch Angle on Projectile Range

Introduction
This experiment will examine the effects of varying launch angle on the range of a projectile.

Aim
To see weather changing the launch angle will affect the range of the projectile.

Hypothesis
The longest range will be achieved by launching the projectile at 45, and reducing range as the launch angle increases or decreases from 45.

Variables
Independent variable Launch angle Dependent variable Projectile range

Equipment
Rubber band Ruler Protractor

Method
Firing the rubber band method:
1. 2. 3. 4. Hook the rubber band at the end of the ruler Pull back the rubber band to 10 cm Place next to protractor and measure desired angle Release the rubber band.

Experiment method: 1) 2) 3) 4)

Fire the rubber band in the horizontal direction (0). Measure and record the distance that it has traveled (in meters). Repeat this 3 times and take average. Repeat the experiment at 30, 45, 60 and 90.

Safety Assessment
Do not fire and confirm that before firing there is no one in the firing direction Do not get close to the rubber band while firing as it may snap off.

How data will be analysed

The data is then put into a line graph. This type of graph will clearly show how the effects of launch angle on the range of the projectile, making it easy to analyse. The graph may look similar to this: Varying Launch angle effect on Range
