Diabetes is a metabolic disorder in which the human body does not produce insulin or the cells do not respond

to the insulin that is produced. This hormone is required to convert sugar, starch and other food into energy. The desired blood sugar range should be between 70mg/dl-110mg/dl at fasting stage. If the blood sugar is more than 110mg/dl, then its called Hyperglycemia or Diabetes. Classification Type 1 or IDDM (Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus) The body produces little or no insulin so the person requires injecting insulin. Type 2 or NIDDM (Non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus) The body produces insulin but cells fail to use it. Causes Type-1 diabetes is generally found in children between the ages of 9-15 yrs. The exact cause of Type-1 are unknown but its an auto immune disorder that can be passed down through families. Type-2 diabetes mainly involves sedentary lifestyle, intake of more sugar, lack of exercise, obesity, certain medicine, pregnancy, increased age, stress. Treatment As we always say, Prevention is better than cure. We can control high blood sugar by: 1) Change in lifestyle 2) Daily morning walk, exercise, yoga 3) Reduction of carbohydrate in diet 4) Maintaining the healthy weight High blood sugar needs regular medical care and blood sugar monitoring as it may lead to coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, retinopathy (disease of eye), nephropathy (disease of kidney), neuropathy (disease of nerves). Home remedies 1) Soak about 90-100g fenugreek seeds in 250ml of water & leave it overnight. In the morning mash them and filter it to drink water. 2) Chew 3-4 leaves of jamun every morning and evening 3) Mix equal amount of turmeric and dried amla powder; drink 1 tsp on an empty stomach.
