HOMEWORK POLICY

Purpose of Homework Homework should be a meaningful experience designed to develop independent work habits and reinforce/practice skills learned at school.

Why do we assign homework? Reinforce/practice what has been taught in the classroom. Assist students in developing responsibility for their own learning. Encourage the development of self-discipline and good work habits. Provide parents the opportunity to become involved in their childs learning. Assist parents in communicating that academics is a high priority.

Expectations All students will have an assigned number of minutes per week to read. There will be a reading log; these will vary per grade level. This reading is included in the total number of minutes of homework. KINDERGARTEN: Up to 30 minutes of homework may be expected each week. FIRST GRADE: Up to 50 minutes of homework may be expected each week. SECOND GRADE: Up to 20 minutes of homework may be expected each night. THIRD GRADE: Up to 30 minutes of homework may be expected each night. FOURTH GRADE: Up to 40 minutes of homework may be expected each night. FIFTH GRADE: Up to 50 minutes of homework may be expected each night. **Each grade level will develop criteria for consistent homework.***
