EDU 269 implemented the Intel Teach to the Future program.

One of the major assignments required me to complete multiple components of a sample unit plan using technology, such as Microsoft PowerPoint. These artifacts show a competency with using technology in the classroom setting. The task required that I follow a set rubric in order to create an introductory unit plan presentation, a rubric for student presentations, and a sample student presentation. This assignment tested my ability to identify relevant standards, and to create an engaging lesson plan based on them. In addition, I was given the opportunity to refine my unit plan by following the tasks from a students perspective. This assignment speaks to multiple abilities that I possess in designing engaging material for my students. Primarily, I designed a unit plan that addresses current Arizona State Science Standards, incorporating the learning and use of technology and research skills. In addition, I feel that the unit introduction presentation is aesthetically appealing, and introduces the assignment in a way that engages students and models the use of technology. Additionally, I developed 5 curriculum framing questions, which address the major learning objectives within the standards being taught; as well as learning objectives to communicate clear expectations to students. The creation of a sample student presentation was critical to the development of my unit plan. As I followed the objectives and rubric I had created, I was able to identify directions that needed further explanation, and components that were either missing, or extraneous. I find that the process of completing a sample has a two-fold benefit. First, I am able to clarify discrepancies, and any difficulties that my students may face. Second, I am able to show my students an example of the final product I expect of them. When I am able to provide examples of work for my students, I experience fewer procedural and formatting questions, than without these aides.
