Syllabus IT352 - Simulation & Modeling (6 Credits T=4, P=2)

Topics: 1. Introduction: System and its model; basic nature of simulation; motivation; Examples 2. Simulation of continuous system: Example of a chemical reactor; review of methods of numerical integration; example of a servo system; analog versus digital simulation. 3. Simulation of a Discrete systems: Fixed time step versus event-to-event model; generation of uniform and non-uniformly distributed random numbers; montecarlo and stochastic simulation. 4. Simulation of Queuing systems: Basics of queuing theory; single-server, two-server and more general queues. 5. Simulation of a PERT network: Network model of a project; analysis of activity; critical path computation; uncertainties in activity duration; example; resource allocation and cost considerations. 6. Inventory control & forecasting: Basic concepts; simulation of poisson and erlang variates examples; forecasting and regression analysis. 7. Design and evaluation of simulation experiments.
