Design Philosophy The scheme follows the shape of 4 logarithmic spires that do not have the same centre

and are placed perpendicular to each other. This leads to symmetric shape to both axis that looks like a cross with curved sides. This is a common shape that cathedrals obtain in order to distinguish from the rest of the buildings of a large city and in order to pay tribute to God.

Logarithmic Spire The logarithmic spiral is determined by the following parametric equations

( ) ( )

The logarithmic spiral can be distinguished by the fact that the distances between the turnings of a logarithmic spiral increase in geometric progression. Good Points The structure has a shape of a cross. It is a structure that consists of arches and frames namely beams and columns. There is no sophisticated technique that is needed in order to design and construct the structure. Taking into account its size the construction is not too difficult to be built. The materials of the frame structure can be steel and concrete. These materials are common and are used for the majority of the buildings in the world. The structure can built in a way where sunlight can fill the interior by using extended glass surfaces. This will provoke a nice feeling to the audience.

Bad Points In order to avoid the use of columns large spans occur at the audience area. This means that carefully calculated metallic trusses or prestressed beams are needed. The floor plan shows that only a quarter of the total structure area can be used for the audience. Probably it is not enough. The ceiling of the structure has a sophisticated shape that needs extreme care and much effort to be built by specialists. The design and the construction of the structure is difficult in terms of building the curved sides of the Cathedral.
