Number the most important characteristics of Native American literature based on The Great Flood myth, The Womans Divorce Dance Song and the Formula to Secure Love. Here you can design a chart or write down a set of notes. 2. Compare those characteristics with the novels you are reading ( The Last of the Mohicans, The Awakening and Of Mice and Men) Take notes about elements you consider are being repeated and those ones you think are new to the North American Literature. Use the following chart: CHARACTERISTICS YOU SEE COME FROM NATIVES NEW CHARACTERISTICS

3. Look at the type of character and voice stories and poems show. Name the characteristics you consider characters have along the texts you read. You can use the following chart:

Characteristics of Native and Characteristics of Romantic Puritan Characters Characters

Characteristics of Civil War Characters

SUGGESTIONS: -You can use the Philosophy of Composition, The Poetic Principle and the analysis of Twice told Tales written by Poe in order for you to have theoretical information to carry on the task explained above. -You can watch any of the suggested movies for you to identify the modern characteristics characters in The United States have for you to have a referent. Then, you may start checking the ones you see important along the texts you read (repercussions, ramifications, results, effects, etc).

-Remember this workshop is not to be finished but until September the 24 th or so. That means you have enough time to provide arguments considering all the texts you are to read until that date. -Remember this workshop has the intention of helping you identify and organize ideas for the final paper. Consequently, it is expected you are not to take more than 2 pages doing the workshop itself. -Take advantage of Learning Strategies instead of writing complete paragraphs when doing the workshop. You can use Mapping, Categorizing, Outlining, and so on. -Do not worry if there are texts you are not finishing reading because they were assigned to be read at the end of the semester (e.g. Of Mice and Men). You can avoid using the information provided in those texts. They are to be taken into account later on. Still, if you are starting to read them while doing the workshop, you can include elements according to what you have identified up to now. -Use Times New Roman 11.
