What is an Aboriginal perspective? What is the difference between teaching about Aboriginal people/culture/history and including Aboriginal perspectives?

How might you include Aboriginal perspectives in your educational area? An Aboriginal perspective is an Aboriginal point of view or opinion about a subject, idea or piece of information. The difference between including Aboriginal perspectives in teaching and teaching about Aboriginal people/culture/history is that Aboriginal perspectives come from ideas, stories and processes imbedded in Aboriginal culture and life, whereas Aboriginal people/culture/history is information based on content. Harrison (2011) suggested that it is sufficient to simple mention or refer to Aboriginal people or perspectives within the classroom. Warren et al (2008) demonstrated that Aboriginal perspectives should be imbedded in the classroom through a variety of discourse and materials. When I am a teacher, I hope to be able to include Aboriginal perspectives in my classroom teaching and ensure that my students have an understanding how important Aboriginal perspectives are in Australia and its history.
