MAM Story
Success through Visionary Design and Medical Know-how
Success stories often start with bold visions: This is the case for the Austrian baby product producer MAM. In Vienna in 1976, Peter Rhrigs new concept was to combine outstanding design, optimal functionality and medical know-how in baby products. Together with a team of designers and paediatricians, the plastics engineer developed the first MAM soother. Today parents and families buy over 50 million MAM baby products annually. As a global company we are market leader in many countries and world class for contemporary baby design. In the mid-seventies, discerning parents were faced with a compromise when buying baby products: either appealing design or medically tested functionality. In 1976 Peter Rhrig, a qualified plastics engineer, was the first to combine these features. Together with scientists, doctors and designers from the Viennese University of Applied Art, he developed a soother that set new standards for both design and functionality and founded the company MAM. Stable Growth to Become Global Player The new soother was an immediate success with parents and babies; for Rhrig the international commercialisation of the successful idea was the natural progression. In 1989 the Austrian entrepreneur branched out into the global market with a subsidiary in the UK. Then in 1990 MAM bought the Swedish market leader Bambino and opened MAM Hungary, its own factory for assembly and packing. Product Development in Austria The next steps towards becoming a world leader in baby design was the founding of the MAM subsidiary in Germany in 1991 and the opening of the MAM Product Development Department in the small town of Siegendorf, Austria. In 1998/99 MAM expanded its international network with the founding of further subsidiaries in Hungary and Brazil. 2002 MAMs own latex production Thaimed in Thailand was launched. 10 International Subsidiaries The youngest member of the MAM group and the 10th subsidiary is France - founded in 2012. Global commitment and stable growth signify the vision of company founder Peter Rhrig MAM is not an Austrian company that does business internationally. We are an international company with its heart in Austria. MAM as a Market Leader Today our products are sold all over the world in 56 countries and on five continents.
