ABSTRACT
The interest in biogas production originated in the early seventies as a consequence of the oil crises.
In Greece, biogas produced from animal and urban wastes in centralized anaerobic digestion plants
could contribute towards energy independency, by substituting imported fuels.
The development and application of biogas technologies is an alternative for environmentally
friendly energy and offers an opportunity for wastes recovery/ recycling.
