13 Gbps Dual Differential Input Linear TIA/VGA Amplifier

1352TA

Applications 40G coherent receivers Features Supports data rates up to 13 Gbps Dual monolithic TIA/VGA 150 to 5 k differential electrical gain Adjustable amplitude: 300 1000 mVpp differential Adjustable 3 dB bandwidth: 9 13 GHz typical Automatic or manual gain control Peak detector output Output control Low power consumption: 350 mW in low output swing mode Available in die form: 1.6 mm x 1.4 mm Description The 1352TA is a dual, differential linear transimpedance/variable-gain amplifier (TIA/VGA) for 40G coherent detection receivers. The 1352TA offers two gain control modes: manual gain control and automatic gain control. In manual mode, the gain is controlled from 150 to 5 k differential via an external control pin. In automatic mode, the gain is automatically adjusted to deliver a constant output voltage. The 1352TA provides linear amplification for current levels from 50 App to 3 mApp differential. The 1352TA includes an adjustable bandwidth feature that allows the user to optimize receiver frequency response for different photodiode and ADC/DSP combinations. Small-signal bandwidth is adjustable from 9 GHz to 13 GHz. Output return loss is better than 10 dB to 13 GHz. The 1352TA has input DC current offset cancellation to accommodate a wide range of local oscillator power levels. The 1352TA offers an output control feature for selection of one of the three output states. In normal operating mode, the TIA delivers up to 1 Vpp linear output. In low output swing mode, the TIA delivers up to 500 mVpp linear output. In squelch mode, no signal is present at the output. The 1352TA operates from a single +3.3 V power supply and typically consumes 435 mW in normal operating mode or 350 mW in low output swing mode. The 1352TA is available as a 1.6 mm x 1.4 mm bare die.
