APPENDIX-1
SCHEME OF EXAMINATION

The examination shall be conducted according to the

following Plan:
Part-I. Written examination in the subjects as set out in para
2 below.
Part II. Interview for personality Test of such candidates as
may be called by the Commission, carrying a maximum of
200 marks.

ALL QUESTION PAPERS MUST BE ANSWERED IN

ENGLISH. QUESTION PAPERS WILL BE SET IN
ENGLISH ONLY.

The standard and syllabus of the examination will be as

shown in the Schedule.

Candidates must write the papers in their own hand. In no

circumstances, will they be allowed the help of a scribe to

write the answers for them.

The Commission have discretion to fix qualifying marks

in any or all the subjects of the examination.

If a candidates handwriting is not easily legible, a deduction

will be made on this account, from the total marks
otherwise accruing to him.

Marks will not be allotted for mere superficial knowledge.

Credit will be given for orderly, effective and exact
expression combined with due economy of words in all
subjects of the examination.

In the question papers wherever necessary, questions

involving the Metric System of Weights and Measures only
will be set.

Candidates should use only International form of Indian

numerals (e.g. 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc.) while answering question
papers.

Candidates are permitted to bring and use battery operated

pocket calculators for answering papers in this
examination. Loaning or inter-cahnging of calculators in
the Examination Hall is not permitted.

Interview for Personality Test : The candidate will be

interviewed by a Board of competent and unbiased
observers who will have before them a record of his career.
The object of the interview is to assess his suitability for
the posts for which he has competed. Special attention
will be paid in the Personality Test to assessing the
candidate's capacity for leadership, initiative and
intellectual curiosity, tact and other social qualities, mental
and physical energy, powers of practical application,
integrity of character and aptitude for adapting themselves
to the field life.

APPENDIX - II(A)
Instructions to the Candidates for filling online
Applications
Candidates are required to apply Online using the Web-site
www. upsconline.nic.in
Salient Features of the system of Online Application Form
are given hereunder :
Detailed instructions for filling up Online applications are
available on the above mentioned Website.
Candidates will be required to complete the On-line
Application Form containing two stages viz. Part-I arid
Part-II as per the instructions available in the above
mentioned site through drop down menu.
The candidates applying Online are required to pay a
reduced fee of Rs.200/-(Rupees Two Hundred only)
(excepting Female/SC/ST/Physically Handicapped
candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) either
by remitting the money in any branch of SB! by cash, or by
using net banking facility of SBI or by using any Visa/Master
Credit/Debit Card.
Before start filling up Online Application, a candidate must
have his/her photograph and signature duly scanned in
the .jpg format only in such a manner that each file should
not exceed 40 KB and should not be less then 3 KB each
size.
The Online Application (Part i and Part II) can be filled up to
23rd September, 2013 till 11.59 p.m., after which link will be
disabled.
Candidates are strongly advised to apply online well in time
without waiting for the last date for submission of online
application.

GRADUATE APTITUDE TEST IN

ENGINEERING

Admission to Postgraduate Courses (Masters and Doctoral)
in the country, with MHRD and other Government
Scholarships/ Assistantships in Engineering/ Technology/
Architecture/ Science, is open to those who qualify in GATE.
GATE 2014 score will be valid for a period of 2 YEARS
ONLY from the date of announcement of results. For all
the papers, GATE 2014 examination will be conducted in
ONLINE mode only. For some of the papers the
examination will be conducted in multiple sessions. For
details, please consult the corresponding zonal GATE
office websites.

Eligibility: Candidates in the following categories ONLY

are eligible to appear for GATE: (a) Bachelors degree
holders in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/
Pharmacy (Post-Diploma/Post-B.Sc/4 years after 10+2)
and those who are in the final year of such programs,
(b) Candidates in the final year of the Four-year
Bachelors degree program in Science (B.S.)(PostDiploma/4 years after 10+2).(c) Masters degree holders
in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/
Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are
in the final year of such programs, (d) Candidates in
the second or higher year of Ihe Four-year Integrated
Masters degree program (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/
Technology, (e) Candidates in the fourth or
hlgheryearof Five-year Integrated Masters degree
program or Dual Degree program in Engineering/
Technology, (f) Candidates in the final year of Five-year
integrated M.Sc. or Five year integrated B.S.-M.S.
program, and (g) Candidates with qualifications obtained
through examinations conducted by professional
societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by !E(I),
AMICE (I) by ICE(I)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those
who have completed section A or equivalent of such
professional courses are also eligible.
Candidates have to apply only online. The application
fee: Rs. 1 500 for General/OBC Male candidates; Rs.
750 for Women candidates; Rs. 1500 for Generat/OBC
Other candidates; Rs. 750 for SC/ST/PD category
candidates.
The application fee can be paid either online or through
a bank challan via State Bank of India or Syndicate Bank
(additional bank charges will apply). The application
fee is non-refundable.
