This photograph has been selected because it best portrays the poets’ close friendship, which was also evident off camera, the good humoured nature of Ian McMillan for which he is well known and the subtle contrast between the two characters. McMillan’s expression prompted me to shoot close with a wide-angle lens which enabled me to capture the playful, slightly inquisitive look at the same time as the contrastingly composed fea- tures of Pete Morgan. Shot at f4.5 with a shutter speed of 1/40 sec, using a flash and diffuser.
Photo 2: Raf Sanchez interviewing Peter Lawrence
In this picture I have captured the paradoxical element of Lawrence’s expression despite the nature of the meeting. After attending a somber press conference given by Peter Lawrence and his PR manager 6 weeks after the disappearance of his daughter, Nouse was granted a brief interview. Whilst ap- preciating the relevance of campaigning to students about the whereabouts of Claudia, he seemed skeptical of the importance/effectiveness of the student press.
Photo 3: David Levene Anti-BNP campaign
In the middle of his speech, this image captured Levene looking straight into the camera. In context along side the article, which raises some very serious issues, Levene is campaigning to the entire campus via the media next to a banner displaying a countdown to election day.
