COMPLAINT Cause

Bore wear, bent valves

Broken AFL filters Leaking AFL end plug 2nd gear starts Loss of 4th gear Poor line rise

SECONDARY COMPLAINTs

Flaking anodization, thin stem diameters, minimal valve support and excessive valve length result in wear or bent valves.

COrrection
The Sonnax valve is hard-anodized and has larger stem diameters to minimize bending, as well as additional support area and annular grooves to prevent valve side loading.

1 Manual Valve Sonnax Part Summary The manual valve in 4L80-E transmissions can break or wear the valve body because of its excessive length and thin stem diameters. Sonnax now offers an upgraded, redesigned manual valve kit, 34994-16K, which has lengthened spools with exhaust slots for increased bore support and increased stem diameters. It is common for the AFL filter to blow out and crack, and for the OEM end plug to leak, allowing AFL oil leakage. Sonnax has provided a replacement end plug to ensure proper hydraulic control. Features & Benefits Manual valve is made from hard-anodized aluminum to resist wear. Valve has lengthened spools with exhaust slots for increased bore support. Stem diameter has been increased and annular grooves have been added to the furthest inboard spool. AFL end plug is machined from of high-quality aluminum to resist wear. O-ring on the outside diameter prevents leakage between the plug and valve body. Kit can be installed without valve body modifications.
