This tutorial is designed to cover five content areas in sufficient detail so as to provide staff members with a working knowledge of: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. What is a network? What is Cloud computing? What is an Operating System? What is a net book? Document sharing on Google Drive

Learners will use the linked Google Presentation as a guide to help them achieve success in this tutorial.

Content Area and Grade or Age Level of Students: Staff members from all disciplines at my high school. Objectives: The students will be able to identify the key aspects of LAN and WAN networks, 1 advantage and 1 disadvantage of Cloud computing, identify what the role of an operating system plays in computers, define what a net book is, and how to create and share documents with students with Google Drive. Standards Addressed: Alberta Learning ICT Outcomes (this activity meets these outcomes, though it does not necessarily formally assess for all of them)

Relative Advantage: The relative advantage to using technology based instruction as this is a real time activity utilizing the new laptops teachers have been given for classroom use as well as being introduced to the new Chrome books and Google Drive. The skills learned in this lesson can easily be applied to learning activities in their own disciplines when they create and share documents with students that are used to assist collaboration. Additionally this lesson will be made available to future self-directed professional development as it will be placed on our internal server in the PD folder. Timeline: This in-service is designed to be completed in a one hour time frame. Materials: The staff members will need their district provided laptops as well I will arrange to have the Chrome book cart made available. They will be directed to the schools Google Drive account in order to practice creating and sharing a Google Drive document. Grouping Strategies: Staff members will all be working on their own laptop independently but they will create a Google Document and share it to demonstrate collaboration aspects of Google Drive. Learning Activities: After viewing the attached PowerPoint presentation you will be expected know the following information: 1. What is a network? 2. What is Cloud computing? 3. What is an Operating System? 4. What is a net book? 5. Document sharing on Google Drive Assessment: This tutorial is designed to provide an opportunity for staff members to demonstrate mastery of the previously listed tasks. There are several embedded quizzes in the PowerPoint lesson as well as learners will have to create, and share a Google Drive document.
