Due: Sep. 9

1. In a buck converter, consider all components to be ideal. Let be held constant at 5V by controlling the switch duty ratio D. Calculate the minimum inductance L required to keep the converter operation in a continuous-conduction mode under all conditions if Vin is 10-40V, . 2. A photovoltaic (PV) module is used to charge a battery. Depending on the irradiation from the Sun, the PV modules output voltage is changing between 12 V to 20 V. But the battery requires a constant 36 V. Thus, a dc/dc converter is needed between the battery and the PV module. 1) What type of converter will be needed? Why? What is the duty ratio range of the dc/dc converter? (2 points) If the switching frequency of the boost converter is 100 kHz, and the maximum current ripple (Iripple) is 0.5 A (continuous mode) 2) What is the inductance of the inductor in the circuit (1.5 points) 3) What is the minimum power consumption of the battery to keep the inductor current always continuous? (2 points) 4) At the maximum current ripple condition, draw (not simulate and plot) the waveforms of i) switching status, ii) Vdiode, and iii) inductor current; mark the values for each waveform (1.5 points) 3. In a buck-boost converter, (Note: ); (b) Calculate the rms value of the current through the diode and the capacitor; (c) Calculate ( is an average value of the output/load current at the border of continuous conduction). Does this converter work in continuous conduction mode? Explain.
