Title: Two duties of Gods covenantal people Genesis 18:18-19 since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 19 For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.

Romans 15:19 in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

Today I would like to testify the Word of God regarding two duties of God s covenantal people. As an introduction, when we say Gods covenantal people, who are the covenantal people? We can say Christians who believe in Jesus Christ are Gods covenantal people. Because salvation through Jesus Christ was accomplished by fulfillments of all of Gods covenants. However, when we examine through the Word of God in the Old Testament, saints of God who received Gods Word are the covenantal people. Psalm 105:8 8 He remembers His covenant The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations, forever,

Because the Word of God is namely Gods covenants. However, when we examine Psalm 105:9, it records, The Word which He commanded for a thousand generations is The covenant which He made with Abraham. When we view through this Scripture, strictly speaking, Gods covenantal people means the saints of God who inherited Abrahams covenant in Christ Jesus and live their life of faith to accomplish Gods covenants. Galatians 3:7 7 Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. This is the Word of God that testifies that covenants which God made with Abraham and blessings which God gave to Abraham are still continuing until this day. And therefore, todays Gods covenantal people do not simply mean people who believe in Jesus, but it means saints of God who correctly understand Gods redemptive administration in Jesus and faithfully fulfill Gods covenants.

 . . . . 18:17 Therefore, todays covenantal people are men of faith who understand Gods will contained in Gods redemptive administration and believe. For Gods will is hidden as secrets from worldly people, covenantal people are people who possess secrets compared to worldly people. Abraham, the representative of Gods covenantal people, is a man who has Gods secret. Genesis 18:17

And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing,

Like this, covenantal people too are the ones who possess the mystery of the faith. 1 Timothy 3:9 9 holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience.

If so, then what are two duties given to Gods covenantal people?

1. It is the duty of teaching/passing down Gods covenants. When we examine the relationship between Gods redemptive history and Gods covenants, covenants are the loops that link each timeline of redemptive history.

 . And therefore, todays covenantal people has this duty; the duty to give our best in passing down Gods covenant.

If so, then what does it mean by passing down Gods covenant? It means parents teach their children covenants of God so that children fully understand Gods covenants and obey them. It is this act of faith to teach our children to become Gods people.

. 1:1 . Such importance of passing down Gods covenants is clearly revealed in Gods purpose in choosing Abraham. God called Abraham out of Ur of Chaldeans and made him come to the land of Canaan. And when Abraham arrived in Canaan, he received promise from God that he shall be a blessing and also, as it is stated in Matthew 1:1, Abraham became a great man who became the ancestor of the fulfiller of Gods covenant, Jesus Christ.

And the Bible says, Gods purpose in choosing Abraham lies in passing down Gods covenants to his children. Genesis 18:19
For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.

This means passing down Gods covenants to our children is that important process in Gods redemptive history. Also, this emphasizes that covenantal people must completely fulfill their duty of passing down Gods covenants just like Abraham did.

If so, then what kind of method should be used in passing down God s covenants to our children? Passing down Gods covenants must be done by the parents who should command their children and their household after them, that their children and household keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, Therefore, parents, in the position of the representative of God, must be the parents who are able to command their children and their household after them and who constantly encourage and lead them to obey the Word of God.

When children become the children of obedience by parents teaching of Gods covenants, God promised to make blessings which God promised to Abraham to be accomplished at last.

Moses is talking about parents role in such passing down of Gods covenants. Deuteronomy 6:6 6 And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

15 . When we read the Bible, we can find out many traces of Abraham teaching his grandson Jacob about Gods covenants for 15 years while he lived with Jacob.

. Like this, as a covenantal people of God, I bless you with the name of the Lord you all become the saints of the livinghope church who are able to fulfill your duty of teaching Gods covenants to your children whether they be your spiritual or fleshly children.

2. It is a duty of fully preaching the gospel of redemptive history to all nations. If passing down Gods covenants is a duty to be fulfilled through family, then preaching the Word of God is a duty to be fulfilled by the saints of God as a member of church. Romans 15:19 19 in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

If Jerusalem is the starting point of the gospel, then Illyricum is the region located in the west end of the land which Saint Paul evangelized before he headed Rome. Therefore, the meaning of this Scripture means the gospel of Christ must be fully preached to all nations of the world.

Like this Word of God, as todays covenantal people the saints of God possess the duty of preaching Gods redemptive series to all nations of the world. Here, being fully preached means, being widely full, fully filled even to every nook and cranny. If so, then why should the Word of God be fully preached in the time of the end? Because there is Gods predestination that the Word of God must be preached to the ends of the earth in the days of the end. Matthew 24:14
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

And it is predestined in Gods providence of redemption that when the gospel of redemptive history is fully preached and all the nations which heard the Word of God come before the Word of God. Isaiah 60:1-3

Arise, shine; your light has come! the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. 2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the LORD will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. 3 The Gentiles shall come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising. Such work of God must indeed will be accomplished in the end as it is prophesied in Micha 4:1,2 and Isaiah 2:1,2. Micha 4:1-2, 1 Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the LORDs house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And peoples shall flow to it. 2 Many nations shall come and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths. For out of Zion the law shall go forth, And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

10 . . . Even when we look at Revelation Chapter 10, the time of the end is divided in ministry of the Word of God being proclaimed and the work which the Word of God is fully preached to the world. If proclaiming the Word of God is the work of God, then the duty of fully preaching the gospel to all nations becomes the duty of the saints who

receive the grace of the Word of God and distinguished as Gods covenantal people. Therefore, covenantal people must diligently work to preach fully the gospel of redemptive history to all nations so that all nations can come before the Word of God after hearing the Word of God.

. . I am going to make a conclusion. This year, our churchs slogan is this; the church that fully preaches the gospel of the redemptive history to all nations. If you cannot open your eyes to this slogan and if you cannot try diligently, then you shall be put to shame by not being able to fulfill your duty completely as Gods covenantal people. , .
