When to use a question mark If you are asking a direct question and waiting for an answer

Examples Do you want to go with me to the store? Will dinner be served tonight? When can I see you again? Who is your new teacher? Where is the party tonight? What does that mean? Why are you bringing a sweater? How do I do this math problem?

For rhetorical questions

Are you kidding me? Who cares? How should I know? Whats the use?

To show doubt or uncertainty

Queen Elizabeth I (1523?) is my favorite queen. Johns father is named Woodrow (?). Lord Worthington (and his wife?) lived in the house down the road.

When punctuating something within quotation marks

Have you read The Tell-Tale Heart? (The question mark isnt part of the quotation, so it goes outside the quotes.) My favorite Christmas song is Do You Hear What I Hear? (The quotation is a question, so the question mark goes inside.)
