Learning Goal
Students will be able to Identify the different elements of scientific inquiry. Students will be successful when Explain the steps of scientific inquiry in their own words. Analyze why each step of the inquiry process is essential and how the steps are connected.
Scientists have to take the time to think logically when they are investigating a question and solving a problem.
Scientists

Make observations, identify a problem, and then ask a questions. Form a hypothesis based on the question. Design and carry out an experiment to test the hypothesis. Record observations and results from the experiment as data. Analyze and discuss your results with other scientist. Form conclusions and make new plans.
Experiments have to be carefully designed and executed to obtain accurate results. Results of experiments have to be carefully and accurately recorded for scientist to know what was exactly found. Graphs and tables are used to record results.
Communicating conclusions is important so that new questions and hypothesis can be asked and explored. Because scientists share their experiments and findings, scientists can learn from each other and often use someone elses experiences to help them with what they are studying or doing.
Once a scientist completes an experiment, they often repeat it to see if they get the same findings and results.
For a hypothesis to be accepted as valid, it has to be tested many times. Scientist need to be sure that they get the same results again and again.
