Spelling: 1. Take out your words and re- sort them into your three columns.

Remember to say them in your head, or quietly so you can hear the sound they make. 2. Together we will figure out a rule that will help us remember which group they fit into. In your spelling notebook, write out: Sort 8 Long a sound: VCe. When I have a vowel, then a consonant and then an e, the e is silent and the vowel before the consonant makes a long sound. (cake) Short a sound: VC. When I have a vowel, and then a consonant, but no e at the end, then the vowel makes a short sound. (cat) Oddball sound: The vowel doesnt sound like a long or a short sound.
