CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 INRODUCTION Computer simulation is a technique that allows building of and experimenting with model of a real system on a computer. Although there are several different types of simulation, the focus of this project is on discrete-event simulation as applied to an electronic assembly and tast system. This project is focused on discrete-event simulation using the commercially available simulation program ARENA. ARENA supports animation and the material flow through the system can be explained in a clear fashion to members of other teams who are not familiar with simulation. ARENA provides a user-friendly environment with out involving any programming statements. The function of every block and element is hardcoded in advance, while devaloping the software. Arena Basic Edition software lets you bring the power of modeling and simulation to business process improvement. It is designed primarily for newcomers to simulation and serves as an introductory product and foundation to the rest of the Arena product family. Typically, any process that can be described by means of a flowchart can be simulated with Arena Basic Edition.
