The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has used the Copyright Act to effectively ban a film called "Project Spear" about corruption, made by journalist & filmmaker Sylvia Vollenhoven. What's more they have sought an interdict in the Supreme Court to ensure that all material is returned to them and that an "adaptation" of the film is never made. This is the answering affidavit that spells out why this action flies in the face of the SA Constitution and the public's right to know. Vollenhoven is also filing a counter application. In this Supreme Court case she is being represented by the Legal Resources Centre (LRC) and is being supported by the Freedom of Expression Institute (FXI) as well as the Khulumani Support Group.
