Librarian. He was a monk-librarian in his own way. Krishan Kumar Bhatia is also a monk-librarian spreading the cause of libraries. His message is conveyed through word-of-mouth. He is a sadhu-librarian who is always on the move. He is a foot soldier in the cause of librarianship. He is also riveted deeply in the Indian tradition. For him ashrams are his libraries and the libraries are his ashrams. Both libraries and ashrams are the homes of knowledge, and Krishan Kumar Bhatia is the monk-librarian spreading the message. He is at his best in his interaction with school children and on such occasion school libraries are his ashram and he turns into a monk expounding from the pulpit. The kids love him on such occasion and he is no doubt the grandpa to them.
HIS GREATEST CONTRIBUTION HOWEVER REMAINS IN THE DAYS HE SPENT WITH PRISONERS IN THE TIHAR JAIL BY MAKING THEM LIBRARYMINDED, THEREBY TURNING THEM AS LIFELONG STUDENTS

His greatest contribution however remains in the days he spent with prisoners in the Tihar Jail by making them library-minded, thereby turning them as lifelong students. His other such contribution is regarding the Ranganathan Research Circle in association with the late Shri Subha Rao. The RRC is still to reach its pinnacle and maximize its potential. Let Krishan Kumar Bhatia concentrate in turning the RRC around as the forward guard of the profession in future. Last but not the least, Krishan Kumar Bhatia with his wellmannered goatee has a striking resemblance to V. I. Lenin, the great revolutionary and harbinger of change and happy days ahead. Prof. Girja Kumar is a veteran research scholar. Founder of the Sapru House Library, he has held many important positions including those of Chairman, Delhi Library Board and President, Indian Library Association. He retired as University Librarian, Jawaharlal Nehru University in 1985. He is also a prolific writer.
