New Eagles coach Chip Kelly (center) gets the attention of former Eagles coach Andy Reid (right), who returned to Philadelphia as coach of the Chiefs.

Reid enjoys a happy homecoming to Philly

Chiefs aggressive defense beats up turnover-prone Vick, Eagles
PHILADELPHIA Andy Reids coaching return to Philadelphia was a success Thursday night as he guided the Kansas City Chiefs past the Eagles, 2616. The Chiefs defense forced four turnovers and sacked Michael Vick six times, including 41/2by linebacker Justin Houston. Kansas City (3-0) has won more games already under Reid than it did all of last season. Kansas City, which has not had a giveaway this season, got a 38-yard interception return by Eric Berry for a touchdown, and a 3-yard scoring run by Jamaal Charles. Ryan Succop kicked four field goals. Philadelphia (1-2) had five sacks, but was undone by sloppy tackling and an inconsistent performance by the fast-tempo offense brought in by Reids replacement, Chip Kelly. Reid won 140 games and six division titles in Philadelphia. Vick limped off the field with 1:34 to go after the final sack and turnover. The Eagles scored 63 points and totaled 954 yards in the first two games in Chip Kellys frenetic, fast-paced offense. But Kansas Citys swarming defense had plenty of answers. Reid was back in Philadelphia for the first time since he was fired last season following a 4-12 finish. He got a standing ovation

from some of the same fans who chanted Fire Andy during a game in 2011 and desperately wanted him gone last year.

Reids homecoming coincided with the Eagles retiring Donovan McNabbs No. 5 at halftime. Reid drafted McNabb with the second overall pick in 1999, and the coach-quarterback duo turned the Eagles into one of the NFLs elite teams for a decade. Vick hadnt thrown a pick in his last 95 attempts, dating to last season, before locking in on Brent Celek on Philadelphias third play. Derrick Johnson tipped the ball and Berry caught it, running untouched to the end zone to give the Chiefs a 10-0 lead. Vick played near-flawless the first two games, accounting for six TDs (four passing, two rushing) and a 119 passer rating. He threw for a career-best 428 yards in a 33-30 loss to San Diego last Sunday, but only had 149 yards passing in the first three quarters against the Chiefs. Vick bounced back from the first interception with a careerbest 61-yard run before tossing a 22-yard TD pass to Jason Avant that cut it to 10-6. Vick had 85 of Philadelphias 201 yards rushing through three. After Vick connected with Avant, the Eagles then failed on Kellys first attempt at a two-point conversion. Known for passing up extra points and going for 2 at Oregon, Kelly waited until his third game to try it in the NFL. Kicker Alex Henery lined up in the shotgun, but the snap went right to Zach Ertz lined up wide to the left. Ertz was tackled well short of the end zone.
