1. What type of mutation causes Sickle Cell Anemia? A single alteration in one gene or a nucleotidecausing the triplet to code for another amino acid. 2. How can a mutation in DNA cause a change in the protein? It causes different amino acids to be coded for within the triplet of DNA. 3. What are the benefits of carrying one version of the sickle cell gene and one version of a healthy gene? How does this affect where Sickle Cell anemia is most prevalent in the world?

One pair is beneficial because: it helps you protect your body from malaria. While two pairs can become fatal because: They severely alter the form of the hemoglobin which in turn can alter the overall shape of the red blood cells making them long jagged rods and and unable to perform as necessary. (i.e. Excess clotting when unnecessary)
