Quantitative Assessment of Parasitic Soil Helminthes on the Landfill site of Tuguegarao City

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY


The general objective of the research is to determine the prevalence of soil transmitted helminthes in the landfill site of Tuguegarao City.

The study specifically aims to:

Characterize the physical profile of the sampling sites in terms of : a.) Soil type b.) Garbage content

Identify the presence of the following soil helminthes in the dumpsite. a.) Ascaris lumbricoides b.)Trichuris trichiura c.) Necator americanus d.) Ancyclostoma duodenale

Determine the degree of soil contamination based on:


a.) Occurrence of specific soil helminthes in the landfill site. b.) Occurrence of specific soil helminthes in each sampling sites.

Significance of the Study


To help the scientific community in identifying if there is an association between the prevalence of soil transmitted helminthes and the proper disposal of waste in the dumpsite.

To give the public additional information regarding proper sanitation. Detection of soil transmitted helminthes through this research would enable the local government to have an idea regarding proper waste disposal in the dumpsite.

Can contribute to students and other people who are concerned with the environment. It will also serve as a pioneer for future researches who are interested to do similar studies.

It would serve as an eye opener to the readers on the real condition of life in Iguig, Cagayan where the said dumpsite is located.
