The future tense.

The future tense is used to describe something which will happen or that someone will do.
e.g. This evening, he will watch tv. Tomorrow, they will visit their uncle. The cat will chase the mouse. The weather will be nice in the summer.

How to form the future in French.

To form the future tense of regular verbs in French is quite simple. We need two things: 1) the infinitive of the verb 2) the correct endings.

The future of er and ir verbs. To form the future tense of regular er and ir verbs we add the following endings to the infinitive:

manger = to eat je mangerai = tu mangeras = il mangera = elle mangera = I will eat you will eat he will eat she will eat

nous mangerons = we will eat vous mangerez = you will eat ils mangeront = they will eat elles mangeront = they will eat

finir = to finish
Write out the future tense of the verb finir. Follow the same pattern as you did for manger.

Regular re verbs
To form the future tense of re verbs we do exactly the same as for er and ir verbs except that we take the e off the end of the infinitive first. e.g.

Write out the future tense of vendre = to sell
