Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robot by The Flaming Lips

1.) The song is about Yoshimi who apparently is a robot fighter. The song is directed at Yoshimi, telling her about the imaginary robots that hes currently battling against. 2.) The electronic fusion effects that the artist uses, especially at the end of the song gives the story a hallucinogenic effect that matches the theme of the speakers struggle to convince the world of the existence his killer robots. The voice of the singer and how light hearted and flowery it is gives the song an easy going and almost sincere feel which helps to make the song seem like a serenade for Yoshimi.

Chinese Translation by M. Ward

1.) Tells the Artists story of heartbreak and his journey toward an answer for his suffering. 2.) Uses mainly acoustics to give the song warmth. That singers voice however, gives the sing a tone of sadness because it seems lethargic and depressed. The instrumental serves to give the listener a chance to think about what the answer to the question might be.

Rabbit Fur Coat

1.) Tell the story of the misfortune of her mothers life and of her own up bringing. 2.) The music is repetitive to keep the listener focused on the lyrics. The singer sings longwinded verses to add a tone of melancholy to the story.

No Surprise

1.) Criticize the government? For attempting to speak for the people without letting them know what going on. (I couldnt understand much of the song) 2.) I dont quite understand how the choice of instrumentation and other artistic decisions enhanced the message. The singing style however might be symbolic in a way. Its almost like he doesnt want the listener to understand whats going on, making them more aware of all that they might not be thinking about or taking for granted. And if the government idea is actually accurate then that artistic choice did make the story more meaningful.
