Harpocration. Tricephalus ["three-headed"]: Isaeus in Against Eucleides says, "A little above the Tricephalus, along the
Hestia way." The full form would be: "the Tricephalus Hermes". Philochorus in book 3 says that (?) Eucleides erected
this at Ancyle (from Jacoby's Fragmente der Griechischen Historiker (FGrH_328)). (b) SUDA, "Tricephalus". A
[statue of] Hermes, which indicated the roads and had an inscription, telling where one road led, and where the other
led. Perhaps it had one face for each road. According to Philochorus, the Tricephalus Hermes was erected by
Procleides, the lover of Hipparchus.

There is a river, the uttermost horn of Ocean, broad and exceeding deep, that a merchant ship may traverse; they call
it Ister and have marked it far off; and for a while it cleaves the boundless tilth alone in one stream; for beyond the
blasts of the north wind, far off in the Rhipaean mountains, its springs burst forth with a roar (Apollonius Rhodius .

Diodorus Siculus, Lib. III. 56: Now the Atlantians, dwelling as they do in the regions on the edge of the ocean and
inhabiting a fertile territory, are reputed far to excel their neighbours in reverence towards the gods and the humanity
they showed in their dealings with strangers, and the gods, they say, were born among them. And their account, they
maintain, is in agreement with that of the most renowned of the Greek poets (Homer; the lines are from the Iliad 14.200
1) when he represents Hera as saying: For I go to see the ends of the bountiful earth, Oceanus source of the gods and
Tethys divine Their mother.
