Westernization and modernization bring with them elements that orthodox Islamic countries wish to avoid and that

create debate among the followers of the Islamic religion. A few of these elements are alcohol abuse, gambling, high divorce rates, and urban violence. Also another issue that has been considered is the role of women in society along with what is considered to be acceptable dress. Popular culture and modernization has spread everywhere and there are attempts by religious governments to stop the spread from changing the way that people act, dress, and entertain themselves. However, not everyone that is a Muslim is under the rule of the religious governments and may adapt their religion to be compatible with the changing world. Revivalism is mostly seen in the countries that are under religious law. This answer to Westernization and modernization is where, in order to avoid the conflicting outside influences, the country has made a choice to remove modern technology (satellites) that allows for communication with the outside world. The country may also choose to have a religious government that enacts a version of the religious law as their punishment system. This revivalism allows for only Allah to be worshiped and it destroys outside influences and laws that may interfere with the Islamic belief system. With the emergence of revivalism, some radical groups have emerged in order to fight for their religious causes and attempt to remove belief in other religions and remove the influences of Westernization. Compatibilsm is seen within the approach of North America and England. This approach emphasizes accepting differences as legitimate forms of multiculturalism and is a view that seeks to integrate, wherever possible, the religious practices into the modern world. Most Muslims are moderate and recognize that in a multicultural world, tolerance of all religions is necessary. And a few countries (such as Saudi Arabia) have begun to explore how to encourage modernization and discourage extremism.
