They show what is happening . They show the action that is taking place. They are called verbs. Verbs are action words.

The verb is the most fundamental part of speech.

Every sentence must have a verb. When you are happy, you sing and dance. Ayudh took his bag and walked away. They may be of more than one word. Mr. Bean should have visited us at school.

Lets look at some verbs.

Verbs are action words, are there non-action verbs too?

There are non-action verbs too. They tell about states of mind or senses. The action actually cannot be seen. They do not express physical action. Examples: to think, to look, to feel

Any other type of verb? Yes, there are linking verbs. They link the subject of a sentence with a word that renames or describes the subject. The most common linking verb is to be. The common forms of to be - am, are, is, was, be, being, been and were. Example : The pool is warm. Is does not show a physical action but connects the subject pool with a describing word warm.

There cannot be a sentence without a verb!
