9.27.13 What a fun week we have had!

If you havent heard, we got to meet and spend time with our Third Grade buddies on Thursday. Our class will be buddies with Sarah Bryas class from Scott Elementary. Each child from our class has been paired with one or two Third Graders. Thursday, we went outside with our Buddies and did a nature scavenger hunt. We are hoping to see our buddies about once a month as the children from both rooms loved every minute! This week we read all about David breaking rules, in our No, David books and how not to be a friend in the book How to Lose All Your Friends. We talked about the value of being a good friend and working nicely in the classroom. The whole class became the authors and illustrators to make a class Yes, David book of all things we should be doing in the classroom to be friendly. We have started to explore our ideas about writing and how to be a writer. We are very excited to be writing fun and exciting stories every day. You may have heard the children talking about ways they can be super writers. Super writers know what needs to be done during writing time and also know how to problem solve during writing time. We also started handwriting in our day. To help our writing we have been working on our Frog Jump letters, F, E, D, P, B R, N, M. We have continued to do star student and we will do this until every student has a day (few more weeks). We have also started our weekly VIP and Carson Soltis enjoyed sharing all about his favorites! In Math, we continued to explore attributes, this week we looked at all the attributes of our face. We made self-portraits and learned that every student has different attributes such as: hair color, eyes, glasses, skin color etc. These portraits will be coming home sometime in the next few weeks with a fundraising note. The PTA runs a fundraiser called Original Works where parents can buy the student artwork and have it put on various things: water bottles, pillow cases, etc. These self portraits turned out adorable and Lindsey took them to Staples to have color copies made so that we can also hang them in the hallway!! Our school Occupational Therapist came in this week to help me look at how the children are holding their pencils. Several children in our classroom were recommended to have a gripper on their pencil. Please keep working on proper pencil grip with your children. This week I have also included a curriculum corner about handwriting (in Friday Folder).
