A seguinte descrio do que pode ser chamado de leitura conjunta d algumas dicas muito importantes sobre o processo de leitura. O Sr. Smith no pode entendla, mas tudo bem porque o Sr. Smith pode ler a carta em voz alta e o Sr. Smirnoff pode reconhecer as palavras e interpret-las; ambos ficam contentes. Cada texto representa uma possvel expresso vocal, mas apenas indivduos com alguma fluncia podero deduzir como um texto escrito vai soar em voz alta. Portanto, falar uma lngua o primeiro passo necessrio para adquirir a habilidade de ler e entender o sentido. As lies de leitura neste livro proporcionam o segundo passo. As lies foram criadas para ajud-lo a associar sons e mudanas de sons com as letras do alfabeto em ingls. Ingls americano I contm 21 lies de leitura: as quais esto todas juntas no fim do curso.
