Zambeef saga

June 22, 2013 Filed under: Breaking News Posted by: Editor
The United Party for National Development (UPND) has come out to issue a statement on the Zambeef saga which has been a subject of interest in this week. The party said Zambeef should not be spared if it is found guilty. It says the aromatic aldehydes are not necessarily new in the food market stating the case of Zambeef is but a tip of the iceberg. The party has also noted with concern that a number of corporate institutions in the country have engaged in various improper activities citing Shoprite and Spar which have been found guilty of selling condemned or expired foods. It added that they seem not to have the interest of consumers and has therefore recommended for constant monitoring of these companies especially that the country depends much on importations. The UPND explained the need to strengthen the councils and the standards body, Zambia Bureau of Standards to protect consumers. The party whose President Hakainde Hichilema is said to be the main local supplier and shareholder of the company under review said the company should be fined if found wanting. But Zambeef on Friday refused having any links with Hichilema. The UPND emphasised that it has always demanded for integrity and honesty in its dealing. It has also called on the people condemning the party and its President over the saga to stop doing so saying people should separate Hichilemas wealth from the party. This is according to a statement from by its secretariat released on Saturday, June 22, 2013.
