Course Description: This course aims at giving theoretical foundation and practice of translation subject. Translation 1 concerns on students translation skill from English into Indonesian. To achieve the aim, therefore, the students should comprehend the HOW it is carried out and the WHY it is translated that way. Various sources are used for the classroom purposes, and various methods of learning are accommodated. Course Objectives: This course is intended to: 1. Provide students with sufficient understanding and practice of translating various texts from English into Indonesian. 2. Motivate the students for translation business. Materials: 1. Newmark, Peter (1988), A Textbook of Translation 2. Compilation of texts of 150-200 words of different subjects, from a variety of sources, including magazines, newspapers, etc. Course Requirements: Class attendance and participation will count a great deal because in every session, students work will be checked and evaluated. Attendance Policy: Students with more than three unexcused absences do not qualify for the final test.
