Goals and Objectives of the Philippine Strategy for Sustainable Development

Nunez, Camille C.

The goal of the PSSD is to achieve economic growth with adequate protection of the countrys biological resources and its diversity, vital ecosystem functions and overall environmental quality. Toward the attainment of this goal, the following objectives have been identified:

To ensure the sustainable utilization of the countrys resources such as the forests, croplands, minerals, marine and fresh water ecosystems.
To achieve and maintain an acceptable quality of common resources such as air and water.

To protect the countrys species and genetic diversity. To ensure the integrity of essential ecological processes and life support system.
To achieve a level of population growth that could be optimally supported by and would not cause undue stress on the countrys resources.

To develop public independence of the interdependence between the environmental quality and economic productivity and, in the process, create a strong constituency for environmental protection.
