Abstract
Routing protocols cannot react fast enough and recover to every routing failure. Existing solutions are often specific to single type of routing protocol. Most of them can not provide effective protection for traffic over failed links. To avoid this, a unified fast reroute solution for routing protection is proposed under network failures.

Introduction
Current routing protocols fail to react quickly to recover from routing failures. The time required for a router to recover from a failure leads to unreliable packet delivery. The existing techniques have drawbacks like difficult deployment and/or uncertain protection effectiveness.

Objective
The goal is to achieve efficient routing protection in IP networks through e-cycle.

Existing Solutions
Not-via Approach: Considered as the best existing solution for IP-FRR in intra-domain routing. Node protection: Recommended to detour failures and reduce computational complexity. Link protection: Used whenever there is a failure concerned with a link.

Proposed Solution
A practical and unied solution called E-cycle is proposed. It effectively addresses routing failures in both intra- and interdomain routing protocols. e-cycle is lightweight and incrementally deployable.
