Use of Force Theme and Conflict Paragraph Blood was everywhere. The girl screamed wild hysterical shrieks.

The doctor felt a blind fury in his shame. Throughout the entire story, conflict never failed to show its face in The Use of Force by William Carlos William. However, the doctor faced the biggest conflict, an internal struggle. The doctor illustrated that human emotion overcomes the greater good. Faced with a desperate girl, the doctor struggled with a blind fury, a feeling of adult shame, compared to a social necessity. The doctor consistently fights with his emotions, the feeling of fury against the girl and the need to protect society. In the end, the doctor wins in overpowering the girl, but loses the internal conflict in his mind. Instead of controlling his emotions and safely handling the diphtheria with care, the childs mouth was already bleeding. Her tongue was cut. The doctors emotion of fury outweighed his want to protect society from diphtheria. Instead, he hurts the girl out of fury and only after does he see the diphtheria. The doctors fury was priority instead of health and prosperity for the society. Without fail, human emotion is a giant obstacle, blocking humanity from achieving good.
