To add an integer all you need to do is know grouping. When adding fractions you can make the operation to subtraction if you change the second number. For example if you have 5+(-6)=x then you could also right it as 5-6=x and that would equal -1 because 5-6=-1. And that is how you add fractions.

When ever you add 2 numbers with opposite signs such as positive or negative, you can change the operation to subtraction. So if you are adding -4+4 then you could rewrite it as -4-(-4). And it would give you the same answer. So that is what you can do when you are adding integers with opposite sides. You can also do this with subtracting integers.

When ever a red and yellow counter come together that tells you that you are adding with integers. And whenever you have one yellow and one red then you will get zero if you add them.

Whenever a red negative and another red negative come together they make up 2 red negatives so the answer is -2. For example -5+-5=-10.

A rule fore adding integers with different signs is that you can always change the operation to subtraction and then you can make it easier for yourself. A rule for adding integers with the same sign is that just add as if you were adding a positive number. An example is -5+-5=-10 because you are adding two negative numbers and the same goes with positive numbers.
