ABSTRACT

Rapid prototyping is a group of techniques used to quickly fabricate a scale model of a physical part or assembly using three-dimensional computer aided design (CAD) data. Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is an additive manufacturing technology commonly used for modeling, prototyping, and production applications.FDM works on an "additive" principle by laying down material in layers; a plastic filament or metal wire is unwound from a coil and supplies material to produce a part. In this experimental investigation of surface roughness and dimensional accuracy by using material ULTEM 9085 produced by Fused Deposition Modeling. ULTEM 9085 is a thermoplastic developed primarily for the aerospace industry and also has applications in the marine and other niche industries. ULTEM 9085 is a strong, lightweight, flame-retardant thermoplastic widely used in aircraft interiors. In this study important parameters are layer thickness, orientation, raster angle, raster width and air gap have been considered. Experimental results of accuracy are analysed.
