2. Students will connect the idea of counting with addition and subtraction. 3. Introductory Activities Students will be engaged via the Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons Video.

4. Developmental Activities Students will review counting-on procedure for adding. Students will complete the Pete the Cat Buttons counting activity within their small groups. 5. Culminating Activities Students will write in their Math Journals (in their own words) the procedure for adding and subtracting buttons. 6. 1. Formal counting assessment will be done individually at the teachers desk. 2. Students will be evaluated on their responses in their Math Journals. 7. Modifications for Special Needs 8. Modifications will be made as necessary according to IEPs or sight/behavior problems.
