. Number 7 (189)-2011 Ngon Ngu & Doi Song journal. Language education for ethnic groups is one of the most concerning problems in Viet Nam. There are still a majority of ethnic people named Vietnamese nationality but can not communicate in Vietnamese. In this article, the writer just mentions in the scope of language education between native tongue and Vietnamese of ethnic groups. The government is attempting to apply different language training frameworks which seem to be unsatisfactory to some extent in teaching language to ethnic children . The first framework is floating education in which ethnic students whose mother tongue is not Vietnamese and Kinh students whose mother tongue is Vietnamese are both taught Vietnamese in Vietnamese. It is undoubted that ethnic students are being thrown in the sea and have to swim by themselves. The rest frameworks are considered to have the same style that is bilingual training system, however, the textbooks are totally Vietnamese. For these education, the mother tongue of ethnic students just plays a supporting role in the transition from their native voice to Vietnamese, and their mother tongue are intentionally designed as a subject in their curriculum. According to the writer, it is necessary to prepare ethnic students with Vietnamese education before they enter primary schools in order that they will be able to avoid the floating in their study. It is the floating education that causes numerous ethnic students to quit studying. Its kind of a shame when Vietnamese can not communicate with Vietnamese ethic groups. This problem is still under much consideration and still need a satisfactory solution.
