The College Kings College London is one of the top 30 universities in the world (2011/2012 QS international world rankings), the Sunday Times 'University of the Year 2010/11' and the fourth oldest in England. The Department In February 2011, the Development & Alumni Office of Kings College London merged with the fundraising teams of our partner institutions, Guys and St Thomas Charity , South London and Maudsley Charity and Kings College Hospital Charity, to create a single fundraising function under the joint leadership of Kings College London and Kings Health Partners. This decision to unite all hospital and university fundraising activity in one team is a milestone in both UK and European philanthropy. The Fundraising & Supporter Development Office is an integrated office with fundraisers in major and individual gifts, trusts and foundations and legacy giving. Engagement programmes include those for both former and current students and staff, families of current students, patients, and friends of the College. The office includes a communications team focused on print and digital media and a comprehensive operations team with research, finance, data and stewardship functions. The Campaign Having successfully closed a 44 million campaign in 2004, in November 2010 Kings launched its second ground-breaking campaign. The World questions|Kings answers campaign, has an ambitious target to raise 500 million by 2015. The campaign will help find answers to some of the worlds most pressing questions, like: How do we respond to an ever-ageing population?...What will it take to eradicate poverty?...Why cant we find better treatments for cancer?... We have matched our strengths against world issues and have identified three key impact areas, where we are wellplaced to help find answers: Neuroscience & mental health, Leadership & society and Cancer. The Post Working as a member of the Alumni & Supporter Relations team, the Alumni Volunteer Coordinator will manage a volunteer programme to increase alumni involvement in the UK and overseas in support of the Colleges strategic priorities and objectives. The post involves working efficiently and tactfully with a wide range of people including volunteers, alumni, students, parents of students, donors, academics and administrators at all levels in the College. The successful candidate will be goal-oriented, an outstanding communicator, with the ability to remain calm under pressure. You will have experience in events or project management and will be adept at managing several projects simultaneously. You will be motivated by achieving targets as well as the interpersonal aspect of volunteer management. You will need to combine strong organisational skills with accuracy and an eye for detail when delivering projects and corresponding with alumni, students and staff. Alumni Relations is a very dynamic area and issues and priorities constantly change- you will thrive in a high-performing, proactive and ambitious environment. The post will be based initially at Strand Bridge House, Strand Campus; however, it is a requirement of employment that the post holder be prepared to work at any additional or different location owned or served by the College either on an on-going or temporary basis after due consultation.

To coordinate the UK volunteer programme and achieve set KPIs which increase the engagement of volunteers in line with the Colleges strategic priorities. To identify, recruit, steward and manage volunteers and work with the International Alumni & Volunteer Manager to develop succession plans for the UK volunteer programme, including the alumni & student mentoring programmes. To design and deliver annual volunteer events, including student and alumni mentoring events. To build excellent relationships with student groups, alumni volunteers and academic staff to advance alumni outreach. To represent the Department internally and externally to ensure that the College community and its audiences are well informed about alumni activities. To advise staff in the Department and the College on the volunteer programme. To work with colleagues to ensure the alumni volunteer plans are in line with Fundraising and Marketing objectives. To work with Communications to ensure that volunteer activities are promoted across integrated communication channels and identify opportunities to share goods news stories.

Communication & networking


Promote the work and strategy of the Fundraiser & Supporter Development at events. Identify and recruit alumni volunteers and cultivate relationships with key volunteers. To work with colleagues throughout the College, particularly in marketing, careers and fundraising, to communicate alumni volunteer activities and create opportunities to advance engagement. To work with colleagues in communications to produce volunteer focused communications. Work with the Data team to ensure accurate recording of all volunteer activities and pipeline development.

Decision making, planning & problem solving


Work with the IAVM to coordinate volunteer events and projects. Achieve volunteer engagement KPIs for full portfolio of work and monitor progress towards objectives. Contribute to the development of the Alumni Teams strategy and annual plans, in particular taking an active part in the development of the alumni volunteer strategy. Prioritise daily workload and assist with the management of workload across the Alumni team, especially with the Alumni Volunteer and Reunions Assistant. To identify and build relationships with key alumni who might take a leadership role in UK volunteer programmes. Assist with troubleshooting and brainstorming across the team to ensure our work is smart, efficient, and always in line with our team strategy. To work with colleagues, particularly in marketing, careers and fundraising, to communicate alumni activity and opportunities throughout the College. To build productive relationships with student societies to establish support for alumni volunteer programmes. Build a portfolio of contacts across the College to help inform future volunteer programmes whilst raising the profile of the alumni team to academics and professional service staff.

To uphold and support the Departments Customer Services Charter and role model that behaviour to other team members. To ensure that alumni, students, staff and volunteers receive the highest standard of care and stewardship To support College leadership in promoting the College.

Analysis & research


To analyse alumni data to guide future volunteer activity and ensure activity is maximised. Review surveys, event evaluations and statistics to inform future volunteer activities and alumni relations programmes. Work with the Research team to provide information for staff briefings and to identify new volunteers. Incorporate findings and research from other Russell Group Universities to ensure best practice in programme development. Identify and utilise industry intelligence on key audiences and markets when developing engagement programmes.

Team work, teaching & learning support


Assist in staff and volunteer recruitment, induction, and mentoring when required. Attend training courses and workshops as part of personal and professional development Assist with the delivery of support and training to temporary staff members and student workers. To undertake any other duties as directed by the IAVM or Head of Alumni & Supporter Relations.

Summary of terms and conditions of service


This appointment is made under the Kings College London Terms and Conditions of Service for NonClinical Academic staff, a copy of which is available from the Human Resources department on request. Period of Appointment Probation Salary Annual leave Indefinite Six months 22,700-25,504 per annum, plus 2,323 London Allowance per annum 27 working days. Staff receive four additional closure days. Notification as to how these days are taken is circulated at the start of the academic year.

Superannuation This appointment is superannuable under the SAUL pension scheme. Staff already superannuated under the NHS Superannuation Scheme may opt to remain in that scheme provided an application to do so is received by the NHS scheme trustees within three months of appointment to Kings College London. Alternatively staff may opt to participate in SERPS or take out a personal pension. Please note that the College does not provide an employer's contribution towards a private pension plan. The College operates PensionsPlus by which individuals increase their take home pay by reducing their NI contributions. For staff who join either SAUL or USS pension schemes, you will automatically be entered into PensionsPlus (provided you would benefit from doing so). As a result your salary will be reduced so that you receive the PensionsPlus salary and a payment is made into your pension scheme instead. NB - NHS Superannuation Scheme: Medical Schools are classed as Direction Employers and some benefits of the NHS Scheme are not available to Direction members.
