Leave me to my own Devices

The poetic devices which Billy depicts in the whole poem are grouped in every stanza with all devices that are seen in this poem. As one of the devices which he has depicted is similes such as in this part of the first stanza The whole idea of it makes me/ Feel like Im coming down with something/ Something worse than any stomach ache/ or the headaches I get from reading in bad light. In the next few lines after that simile Billy not only combines a metaphor and display of hyperbole but also combines imagery (which in fact this whole poem depicts) A kind of measles of the spirit/ A mumps of psyche (which means: the human mind)/ A disfiguring chicken pox of the soul. The sentences in the second last stanza relate to me, It is time to say goodbye to my imaginary friends, / Time to turn the first big number. This part of the stanza relates to me

because when I was younger at that same age I said goodbye my imaginary friends as well. The way that this all relates to the poem is that you have to learn to grow up even if you are taking it hard because when the real world hits you, you will be crying and depressed.
