Shawn Kachmar was appointed to the District 4 seat on the School Board in August 2011 and was elected to the position in July 2012. He is up for election again in 2014.
Since joining the School Board, Shawn has advocated for increased academic choices for students and parents, fiscal responsibility and transparency, and for increased efficiency and responsiveness in the District's procurement and academic programs. He has also opposed millage rate increases and has pushed for a "return on investment" analysis of the District's expenditures so that scarce resources can be better allocated. Academically, he has supported the opening of the new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) Academy, increased investment and attention to the District's workforce development programs, and full-funding of pre-K when funding was cut by the State. As Chair of the Capital Improvements Committee, he has worked to make it easier for vendors to do business with the District while at the same time ensuring that tax dollars are transparently and efficiently spent.
Shawn views the public school system as an integral component of the region's economic development efforts and will continue to work hard to improve outcomes and develop a strong, vibrant workforce to help attract business and investment to the area. Please join us in supporting Shawn's re-election efforts.
