Generations of Computer

As we have seen the human evolution in five stages, the computer also have five generations. They are: The vaccum tubes The transistors The integrated circuits The microprocessors The Artificial intelligence

If we go through the details regarding the each generation of computers First generation (1946-59): Use of vaccum tubes Big & clumsy structure High electricity consumption Programming in mechanical language Large AC were needed Lots of electricity failure occurred

Second Generation(1959-65): Transistors were used Core memory was developed Faster than the first generation computers First Operating system was developed Programming was machine language & Assembly language

Third Generation(1965-71): Integrated circuits developed Power consumption was low SSI(Small scale integration) & MSI(Medium scale integration) technologies were used High level languages were used Fourth Generation (1971 still under use): LSI(Large scale integration) & VLSI(very large scale integration) technologies are used Development of portable computers RAID technology for data storage Used in virtual reality, multimedia, simulation Computers started in use for data communication Fifth Generation (Future computers not yet introduced still in development stage): Parellel processing used instead of single CPU Super conductor technology is used flow of electricity with little or no resistance Used in speech recognition Used in intelligent Robots Used in Artificial intelligence
