The flat rolling process is one of the most important metal forming processes in the manufacturing industry. It is used to reduce the thickness and width of metal sheets or plates and produce a flat-rolled product with the desired thickness and surface quality. In this thesis, mathematical and physical models are developed to simulate the flat rolling process and predict important process parameters such as roll force, torque, temperature distribution, and residual stresses in the rolled product. Finite element method is used to solve the governing equations of the process. The models are validated using experimental data from an industrial hot rolling mill.
