1) There are two water tanks connected by two capillary tubes A and B of equal length 60 cm. The inside diameter of A is 1 mm. P1-P2 is kept constant at all times as 1000 Pa (water= 1 cP) a) If B discharges 4 times as much water as A , calculate VA , VB , DB b) Calculate A/B , the ratio of the wall shear stress c) Calculate the ratio Umax,A/Umax,B

2) Two vertical parallel plates are spaced 0.1 cm apart. The left hand plate is moving at a velocity of 150 cm/min and right hand plate is stationary. The space between the plates is filled with oil which has a viscosity of 40 cP. a) Calculate the shear stress acting on each plate in terms of Pa. b) Draw a sketch of the system and show the direction of shear stress on each plate. c) Calculate the force necessary to maintain the movement of the plate on the left if it has 1600 cm2 surface area. 3) The cylindrical rod shown in figure is being moved with a velocity V. The rod and the cylinder are coaxial. Find the steady state velocity distribution and the volumetric rate of fluid.

4) A vertical tube is filled with a Bingham fluid and a plate is held over the lower end. When the plate is removed, the fluid may or may not flow out of the tube by gravity. Explain this and establish a criterion for such an experiment.

5) Determine the rate of flow (kg/min) through the capillary flowmeter shown in the figure. The fluid flowing in the inclined tube is water at 200C, and the manometer fluid is carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) with density 1.594 gr/cm3. The capillary diameter is 0.0254 cm.
