The two most important elements of effective communication are an effective speaking voice and looking the part of a leader. An effective speaking voice seems particularly relevant to me. If you are constantly forced to yell over the choir the voice will constantly be tired. You will always feel drained and will most likely get sick and lose your voice quite often. Being an effective leader can help in this aspect simply by reigning in the choir. If the choir is aware and respects you as a leader they will be much easier to control. As a new teacher these two elements will be extremely important. It will be very important to look and act confident and in control even when that might not necessarily be the cause. Children, especially adolescents will try to test boundaries in any way they can and a teacher who looks, or seems weak will often have discipline issues in their classroom. It is my hope that I will continue to grow these skills through my experiences at Ball State.
