Although the cost of these new LED lights costs about 40 percent more than the sodium street bulbs used now, the sodium bulbs only last about 2 years whereas the LED lights can last for 12.5 years. Sodium bulbs also create light pollution which is why plans have already begun to use LED lights on Salam Street and other busy Abu Dhabi streets.
